Mai Fave Albums '08.
Everyone else is doing it? I feel obligated, yo.
8. Mates of State - "Re-Arranger"

I was lucky enough to come by Mates of State randomly - they don't really fall into the "genre" of music I listen to. "Re-Arranger" is a very admirable effort.
"Get Better":
7. Lykke Li - "Youth Novels"

Plain and simple, Lykke Li rules. She is SO cool. "Youth Novels" is pretty cool too.
"Breaking it Up":
6. Chairlift: "Does You Inspire You?"

Because I know the little sister of a member of Chairlift, I was blessed enough to hear their music a long while ago. Then they came to my college and opened for MGMT last year, which was GREAT! Naturally they acheived popstar status (much like Feist) through their song's ("Bruises") involvement in an ipod commercial. And they deserve it.
"Evident Utensil":
5. Broadcast 2000 - "Building Blocks"
"Building Blocks" is, relative to many of these other albums, a recent discovery of mine. Broadcast 2000 is delightful in that it is interesting to listen to, but not too interesting that it isn't enjoyable. Case in point, I once listed to one of their songs for days on repeat (I was in a mood) and am still not sick of the song.
"Run":
4. Passion Pit - "Chunk of Change"

Passion Pit rawks. The music is pretty wild - produced and yet still very musical.
"Live to Tell the Tale":
3. Black Kids - "Partie Traumatic"

Black Kids, whom I have loved for nearly a year (longer than anyone else on this list), are quickly achieving total underground rockstar status for their butt-kicking tunes.
"Partie Traumatic":
2. Of Montreal - Skeletal Lamping

Of Montreal is, in short, genius. Their bubbly, mystical sound is music to my ears. "Skeletal Lamping" is a masterpiece.
"St. Exquisite's Confessions":
1. Vampire Weekend [self-titled]

I don't know what to say other than Vampire Weekend is surely one of the very best bands in a very long time. I do not cease to enjoy their debut album.
"One (Blake's Got A New Face)":
So tha's my list!! Don't hate if you disagree with my selections - I found compiling and organizing it very difficult because what I listen to changes so very much in a year (or any given time period). So I guess what I'm saying is this list is most likely a little too current, but I'm O.K. with that. You?
Anywho, I'm putting together a tremendous list of "Songs of 08" - so look forward to that!! Wow!

Most Impressive Post Yet
OKAY. So I first heard this song in an Elodie Pong video (academic!) called "Je suis en bombe" (possibly my favorite short EVER) and spent about a month locating it. Eventually, I emailed the artist, Michael Hilton, and HE EMAILED ME THE SONG PERSONALLY!!!! HOW COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Electric Feelings

SHOCKING. I've been talking about, well thinking about, at least, doing this for a long time. By "this," of course, I mean doing a post on remixes of "Electric Feel" by MGMT (because there are SO many). Enjoy!
1. the Original:
2. the Immuzikation remix:
My personal favorite - retains enough of the original song and brings in enough to merit the remix.
3. the James Rutledge Remix:
Very Interesting musical additions - likes it a great deal.
4. the Aeroplane remix:
Different approach than the others - in classic Aeroplane fashion, this remix is slower and jazzier.
5. the True Pseudo remix:
Pretty popular right now for good reasons - so dancable and spin-worthy.
6. the Rasta Wigs remix:
In a word, groovy. Muddled at times, but worth it.
7. the Justice remix:
Easily the best-known remix (fuck, it's on iTunes), but definitely not my favorite. I think a lot of the original is lost. If not for my inclination to Justice, it might not be so high on this list. Worth a listen regardless (everyone else seems to love it).
8. the Dskotek remix:
Super spinnable and will be hitting clubs (as far as the music internet suggests).
9. the Katy Perry cover(!):
I totally doubted this (I'm a hater) but this is D-lightful. I listen to it by choice. Congratulations, Katy.
10. the Jim Jones, "Dirty" remix:
I actually included this in an earlier post because I was so impressed with Jim Jones' contribution. I still really like it - Jones adds a new mood to the song without taking much away.
11. the INX remix:
Pretty good; classic remix style. Beat to which you can dance.
12. the Illuminoids remix involving, Justice and The Ramones, "Teenage Electric Lobotomy":
Pretty decent mash-up (I'm hating on mash-ups of late).
13. the "Leif My Shit" remix:
A sped up mix like many of the others with some unforeseeable interruptions ("mash-ups"?). Not tragic.
14. "Pimp Feel The Electric Floor," the DMX and 50 Cent Mix
Makes the song feel extraordinarily repetitive and does DMX and 50 no real favors.
15. the Kickdrums mash-up involving Kanye, and Justice, "Electric Touch":
Mash-up. As aforementioned, not enjoying the mash-ups recently, and this mix did nothing to change my mind.
There you have it. An extensive review of the song of the year.
